Homeopathy Medicine & Treatment of Diabetes

by HollandH
  • Overview

Homeopathy is a holistic form of medicine that evaluates and treats the whole person, not just the symptoms of a particular disease. Many homeopathic practitioners have successfully treated patients with diabetes. You can manage your diabetes with diet and lifestyle changes and homeopathic treatments, which are best administered by a health professional.
  • Homeopathy for Diabetes

Diabetes occurs when the pancreas does not secrete enough of the hormone insulin to turn sugar from food into energy, so you end up with too much sugar (glucose) in the blood. Diabetes is primarily of types. Both Type 1, once known as juvenile diabetes, and Type 2, once called "adult onset," can be treated with homeopathy, although treatment of patients with Type 1 is mostly for preventing complications. In homeopathy, symptoms are seen as signs of the body's attempt to heal itself. Homeopathic remedies are always individually prescribed, based on the evaluation of the whole person. According to Tamara Der-Ohanian, HD, you should not discontinue conventional medication during homeopathic treatment. In time you may experience a normalization of blood sugar levels to the point at which your doctor can approve stopping medication. According to diabetesmustbeat.com, it generally takes two years to control diabetes with homeopathy. Mild cases can sometimes be controlled by weight loss, exercise and dietary changes.

  • Some Remedies

Holisticonline.com suggests the following homeopathic remedies for diabetes: phosphorus to normalize blood sugar and energy levels; codeinum 3X, four to six times daily for depression and skin irritation; and syzygium 1X every eight hours as a general remedy. Different presenting symptoms require different homeopathic medicines. According to abchealthline.com, if you have very high sugar in the urine, a large appetite and thirst, and are losing weight, you may need a tincture of uranium nitrate. If your symptoms include increased production of urine that has high sugar content and looks milky, along with muscle pain, lack of appetite and large thirst, you may benefit from causticum, strophanthus, lycopodium and scilla. If your symptoms include nausea, copious and frequent urination and dry skin and tongue, the remedy is likely to be lactic acid. Bryonia is recommended when symptoms include dry lips and tongue, weight loss, sweet-smelling urine, and itching.
