by Penny Ray
  • Overview

Odds are great that at some time your physical address will change from where you are now. Moving in itself can be burdensome, and not having the Internet to situate life's necessities can be a hassle. However, setting up home phone service without having the Internet does not have to be difficult.

  • Step 1

More than likely you will have to visit the city hall of the new town you are moving to in order to set up water and sewer utilities and trash service. Ask them for a list of businesses offering home telephone service in town.
  • Step 2

Call and compare rates. No one wants to overpay for services they may not want or use. armed with your list (or a phone book), call the various companies and ask for their plan rates. Ask to use the phone at city hall.
  • Step 3

Schedule the activation appointment. After deciding which company has phone service that fits your needs, call them back and schedule the activation date.

  • If you know the address of where you are moving before actually leaving, call and set up phone service to be activated before you arrive. Ask the real estate agent if they would be willing to let the technician in. If city hall won't let you use their phone, visit the local unemployment office. They always have phones as well as computers available for public use. As well, the library should have an Internet connection and possibly a pay phone for public use.
