No one enjoys waking up to a face scattered with acne, but traditional creams and medications can leave your face dry and irritated, not to mention affecting your bank account. Luckily, there are alternatives to what dermatologists most commonly recommend.
  • Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil has been favorably compared to benzoyl peroxide, the leading traditional over-the-counter acne treatment. Mix equal parts tea tree oil with water or vegetable oil and apply to the skin.

  • Witch Hazel

Witch hazel will effectively cleanse your skin, reduce your acne and tighten your pores. Gently rub it on your face daily with a cotton ball.
  • Chasteberry

If you notice a link between acne breakouts and your menstrual cycle, try chasteberry. It will regulate your hormones and fight against all PMS symptoms, including pimples.
  • Drinking Tea

There are many different kinds of tea that can help with acne. Experiment to see which type your skin (and taste buds) prefer. Some choices are chamomile, burdock, red clover or echinacea.
  • Burdock

If you don't care for the taste of burdock tea, or have some left over, try using it as a face wash instead. Burdock makes a great topical agent.
