Green tea has been touted as a health-boosting beverage since it was first served in China, 4,700 years ago. The western world has only relatively recently begun to discover the health benefit of green tea. Organic green tea, grown without pesticides, is especially beneficial.
  • Metabolic Benefits

Studies undertaken by The University of Birmingham have found that green tea boosts metabolic rates by improving fat metabolism. Also, the caffeine that naturally occurs in green tea and organic green tea increases thermogenesis (the rate at which calories are burned).

  • Immunity Booster

Research from Brigham and Women's Hospital indicates that green tea and organic green tea may boost the immune system. Green tea contains theanine, which boosts the production of disease-fighting gamma delta T-cells.
  • Protecting the Brain

Studies conducted at the University of South Florida have demonstrated the green tea's antioxidant flavanoids, EGCG, can decrease the beta-amyloid plaque formation on the brain that causes Alzheimer's disease. So far, studies have been conducted primarily with mice, but clinical trials are being undertaken with humans.
  • Cancer Fighter

Catechins, the antioxidants found in green tea, can not only help prevent cancer, but have shown in clinical trials with mice to actually inhibit the growth of certain tumors and cancers. The National Cancer Institute released studies that indicate green tea can prevent and inhibit prostate and skin cancer, among others.
  • Stress Buster

Studies conducted by University College London indicate that green tea and organic green tea contain L-theanine, an amino-acid that promotes the alleviation of the body's stress hormones, cortisol.
  • Preventing Strokes

Research undertaken by the University of California, Los Angeles, has demonstrated that the consumption of green and organic green tea three times daily can reduce the risk of stroke by 21 percent.
