What Are the Health Benefits of the Ionic Foot Bath?

Overview
An ionic foot bath is believed by holistic practitioners to cleanse the body of harmful toxins by drawing them out through the feet. Warm water charged with positive and negative ions supposedly attach themselves to the toxins present in the body and then dissolve in the water. The water will change color depending on the various toxins eliminated.

Why?
Throughout our modern-day lives we are exposed to various pesticides, toxins and chemicals. These toxins are stored in the body's organs, arteries, cells and joints, impeding their functions and promoting a break down of the immune system. Using an ionic foot bath is said to help eliminate these toxins, resulting in better health.

What Is a Cleansing?
The polarity of the negatively and positively charged ions is reversed periodically, creating a powerful energy that is then absorbed through the cells in the feet. According to holistic practitioner Valerie Thornburg, this energy stimulates the body to secrete the toxins and heavy metals that have accumulated in the bloodstream.

Who Should Use it?
People who benefit most from an ionic cleanse are those suffering from candida, irritable bowel syndrome, trouble with memory, migraines, allergies and acne.

Great for the Liver
Alcohol, pesticides and chemical additives are stored in the liver, showing most notably in dull, greenish/gray skin. An ionic foot bath works particularly well for this organ, states Thornburg. After a 20-minute cleanse, skin looks cleaner, brighter and healthier, signaling a more functional liver.

After the Cleanse
Drink a mixture of hot water and fresh lemon juice. This replenishes vitamin C and helps flush out toxins, says Thornburg. Also, take a multivitamin and mineral supplement to replace any good elements that may have been lost through the cleanse.
