Halo Wars FAQs

  • Overview

"Halo Wars" is a strategy-based military game set in the world of the popular "Halo" first-person-shooter video games. Players control small armies of soldiers in battle against alien invaders. A successful game depends on employing certain strategies and finding hidden bonuses. Many of the specific hidden bonuses are outlined in extensive guides or "walkthroughs" available in print or online.
  • What Are Secondary Objectives?

Each mission, or level, in "Halo Wars" has a primary objective that must be completed, but it also has secondary (or bonus) objective that is not initially mentioned. The secondary objectives (like killing a certain number of enemy) are not mandatory, but if completed, reveal a bonus "skull" a player can collect.

  • What Are the Skulls?

Collecting a "skull" (revealed by completing a secondary objective) on each level gives the player a random bonus. Some bonuses are good, like those that increase your soldiers' strength. On the other hand, some bonuses increase your enemy's strength.
  • What Are the Black Boxes?

A "black box" is a bonus item hidden within each level. Finding a black box reveals another event on the "Halo History Timeline," which is accessible on the game and tells the "Halo" backstory.
  • How Important Is It to Build Bases?

Completing a level depends on building and upgrading bases to develop resources and technology. Building resources and upgrading technology quickly allows you to refresh troops and access better attack vehicles, which are often necessary to complete objectives.
  • What Are the Unlockables?

Unlockables are assorted achievements scattered throughout the game that add points to your overall Xbox Gamerscore. Online "how tos" and "walkthroughs" list these unlockables, how to achieve them, and how many points they award.
