Overview
Hair loss is a distressing phenomenon that affects many people at some point in their lives. Aging, menopause, pregnancy, stress and poor hair care practices can all lead to hair loss. While some may readily know the cause of their hair loss, others may need to visit a physician to discover the cause. Fortunately, there are treatment options for just about any cause. Proper hair care, adequate nutrition, and hair loss remedies can help most people stop or even reverse hair loss.

Gentle Hair Care
If you have noticed that your hair is beginning to thin or that you are developing bald spots, you'll need to take gentle care of your hair to prevent it from falling out even faster. One step you can take is to avoid shampooing every day. Try to shampoo only when your hair really needs it. Extra washing can strip the hair of its natural oils. This added damage can cause stress on the hair and lead to increased loss. When you do shampoo, try diluting the shampoo with water before using it. Other tips for holding on to your hair include avoiding brushing and combing when wet, never combing hair backward, and foregoing any type of heat styling. In addition, avoid wearing the hair in excessively tight styles, like ponytails. These styles put stress on the roots.

Nutrition for Growth
Good nutrition is necessary for overall health, but it also plays a role in hair loss. To keep your hair strong from roots to tips, incorporate a healthy diet into your lifestyle. This means drinking plenty of water, eating lean proteins, whole grains, and plenty of fruit and vegetables. In addition, make sure to get enough of vitamins A, C, and E, zinc, beta carotene and copper on a daily basis. A nutritional supplement can help you make sure you are getting enough of these nutrients. Ask your doctor to recommend one if you are not already taking one.

Regrowth Strategies
Luckily, there are plenty of options for regrowth when it comes to hair loss. Prescription treatments like nizoral and finasteride can help stimulate new hair growth for many people. Over-the-counter minoxidil is a topical treatment, applied directly to the scalp on a daily basis. Scalp massage, herbal and folk remedies, and hair transplant surgery may also be used to treat hair loss. If you are unsure about how to go about reversing your hair loss, have a talk with your doctor to discuss your options.
