Women spend years trying to determine the best hairstyle for their face and hair type. It's difficult to know what will look great without some trial and error. If you make a radical change in your hairstyle you'll have to live with it for quite some time. According to the experts at Hairstyle.com, hair only grows about six inches a year.
  • Cut for Your Face Shape

If your face is a classic oval shape, you have the most hairstyling options, as your face should be basically symmetrical. If your face is a square shape your, hairstyle should not be severe. Long, straight hair will not be flattering. Choose a style that hits just above or below the jaw line and has some volume. A round face should not try to add volume, especially around the widest part of the face. Choose a hairstyle that is either short or possibly spiked on top to lengthen the face, or a straighter style that falls below the jaw line. A heart-shaped face should add layers at the jaw line to give the allusion of width at the narrowest part of the face.

  • Highlight Your Best Feature

When creating a new hairstyle, try to highlight your best feature. If you have gorgeous eyes, add asymmetrical bangs or layers that draw attention to that part of your face. Add layers closer to your jaw line to feature luscious lips.
  • Color for Younger Women

Coloring your hair can make you feel great or become an enormous mistake. For younger women, hair should not be changed more than one or two shades from natural hair color. The most common hair color mistake made is the desire to go platinum blonde. Platinum blonde is unflattering to most skin tones, and only works on those with cool coloring. If you would like to go blonde, which is nowhere near your normal hair color range, consider a medium blonde, honey blonde or wheat color. Red is another color that only looks good on a handful of people, and is a relatively permanent choice. It is very difficult to remove red dye from hair and, in most cases, has to grow out. If you are considering a radical change in hair color, first find a cheap wig in that color and wear it for a few days to see if it works for you. Then, if you decide to make that change, go to a salon for the coloring work.

  • Color for Older Women

Older women should not try to return to the hair color of their youth if that color was dark. Older skin tends to be more pale than younger skin, and adding a dark color to a pale face usually makes a person look unnatural and older. If you hair was a dark brown in your youth, try a soft, medium brown to flatter your current skin tone.

  • Choose a Stylist

Finding a hairdresser can be difficult. No matter how nice or expensive a salon appears to be, it is no guarantee that your hair will be treated well. Ask for referrals from friends or strangers whose hairstyles you like. When you find a stylist you like, tip them well and make sure they have your contact information in case they change salons.
