Overview
It is hard enough to write a story at all, never mind a good one. Creative writing encompasses so many different aspects that many budding writers spend hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars on writing classes, workshops and seminars that claim to have the formula for success. However, following a few basic tips will help any writer tell his story well.

Guidelines on How to Write a Good Story
-
Show, Don't Tell
If you ever take a writing class, "show, don't tell" is the first lesson you will learn. Never narrate what you can show through action.
-
Provide Descriptive Details
Do not label what you can describe in detail. For example, never call a character "pretty" or "handsome" and leave it at that. Describe his or her features.
-
Write Actively
Passive sentences like this one are written by writers no one wants to read. Write active sentences. Active sentences propel a reader forward.
-
Write What You Love
Never write for other people's tastes. Write what you love.
-
Do Not Forget Conflict
Whether your main character is a stay-at-home mom struggling in a lifeless marriage or a world-weary mercenary chasing a shipment of Nazi gold, conflict moves her forward.
