Overview
There are many stay-at-home jobs available and finding one that will work for you depends on what you want and like to do. Some jobs don't pay much while others offer a higher salary range. Doing some research can help you find a stay-at-home job that works with your schedule, skills and experience.

Telemarketing
There are many companies that hire employees to work from home rather than from central call centers. Some allow you to work as few or as many hours as you like, at whatever times you like. While most have specific equipment requirements, such as high-speed Internet service and a PC, once you are set up they are all similar in that you help customers through your computer.
Other companies hire you to work a set schedule every day, like you would at any office. This appeals to some people, as they like to know when they will be on the job instead of changing their schedule every day or week. A few companies to look into are Arise, West and Alpine Access. In 2009, the average salary these companies paid ranged from $8 to $14 per hour.

Freelance Writing and Editing
If you have a writing or editing background, this career might be for you. There are several websites and companies that hire writers to submit content for websites, write content for businesses or ghostwrite books. Your income is dependent upon how much you choose to write. Companies include EditFast.com and CyberEdit.com. Payment is specific to each project.

Virtual Assistants
This is a growing field. Many smaller companies can't afford to hire an assistant to be in the office on a daily basis, so they rely on virtual assistants. From home, you get the assignments and perform them. Typically, you must have a computer with high-speed Internet, a fax machine and a dedicated phone line. Often, you can be a virtual assistant for more than one company or person. Check into The International Virtual Assistants Association, VirtualAssistantJobs.com, Team Double Click and VIP Desk.

Tutoring
Whether you are a former teacher or just have a college degree, you might enjoy tutoring. Tutoring companies are going online, helping students all over the country via the computer. All you need is a computer with a high-speed Internet. Students from elementary school through college are tutored in topics from English to physics. Tutors only tutor in subjects that they are comfortable and familiar with. Check into Tutor.com and Tutorvista.com. In 2009, salaries ranged between $9 and $12 per hour.

Direct Selling
If you love to host parties, then direct selling might be for you. With direct selling, you become affiliated with a company that sells a product in someone's home. From scrapbooking to kitchen supplies to cosmetics, there is something to fit just about anyone's interest. Visit The Direct Selling Association to see a list of all the companies that offer direct selling. Some people earn a few hundred dollars a year, but those that really work at it can earn thousands of dollars annually.
