  • Overview

    Game wardens serve as protectors and sentinels in forest and wildlife areas. They patrol on foot, airplane and horse to gather scientific data and search for people who violate game law violations, including illegal hunting.
  • Investigating equipment

    Game wardens seize equipment used by the violators of fish and wildlife regulations. They also determine whether park equipment was damaged by wildlife or poachers.
 
  • Education

    A college degree is not always required for a game warden, but some in the field have degrees in areas such as biology, environmental sciences and criminal justice.
  • Peace officers

    A game warden is a commissioned peace officer who is uniformed and armed.
  • Areas of patrol

    Game wardens patrol all areas of protected lands to enforce state and federal hunting and fishing laws.
  • Other duties

    Besides patrol, game wardens will give educational presentations to the public on topics such as proper firearm handling or wildlife safety.
