Fundraising Ideas for Cheerleaders

by Louie Doverspike
  • Overview

Even cheerleaders need a little support. Putting together fundraising events for cheerleaders can be a difficult proposition, particularly if your squad is not into the idea. Cheerleaders' greatest asset is enthusiasm and you should keep that in mind when trying to think of fundraising options. Cheerleaders are often outgoing and social people, making them excellent fundraisers as long as you have a method to channel their energy.
  • Cheer Up Concessions

Particularly if you have a large squad, taking over concessions can be a great way to bring more attention and money to the cheerleading squad. For a few games, or even at sporting events cheerleaders don't usually cover, have your cheerleaders man concession stands. Sell hot dogs, chips and soda, maybe even cheerleading-themed baked goods. Try and have as much food as possible donated in order to maximize profits.

  • Cheer School

This is an excellent summer fundraising event. Advertise around town for a "cheer school." Encourage young girls in the area, those interested in one day becoming cheerleaders themselves, to spend an entire day with the cheer squad learning how it is done. Set up a "curriculum" with your cheerleading squad in advance, complete with basic workouts, cheers and pom-pom handling. Ask for a small fee from parents. If it is well advertised, particularly outside of elementary schools, you'll be guaranteed to have half of your town's youth show up.
  • Cheer-a-Gram

Set up a table in the lunch room or at school events where people can order "Cheer-a-Grams" for themselves or friends. This can be particularly successful around Valentine's Day. Then, either in a single day or spread over a week, fill the orders, finding the targets and providing them with a little cheer. Encourage clubs to order a Cheer-a-Gram for their next event, imagine having cheerleaders at the chess club. This one requires some preparation with the school in advance.
