Fun Party Games for All

by Kimberly Ripley
  • Overview

Games can turn a boring party into a lot of fun, especially when they are designed for all ages to play. While some games are more appropriate for certain age groups than others, at least a few provide the opportunity for almost anyone to take part. Tried and true games that have withstood the test of time are usually the ones people rely on over and over again. After all, there's a definite reason why they're still around.
Playing charades will leave your party guests in stitches.
  • Charades

It has amused everyone from elementary school-aged children to a room full of adults. Charades will have people laughing hysterically or wracking their brains trying to come up with the word or phrase that's being acted out. The game goes like this: One person is selected to act out a word or phrase that's either drawn from a list of key words or topics or randomly chosen by another person in the room. The person choosing the word or phrase can't play that particular round. Without using words, the person acting must convey to the rest of the players what the word or phrase is. The game or round is over when someone has identified what is being acted out.

  • Scavenger Hunt

Taking place either inside or out, a scavenger hunt keeps people busy for a fairly reasonable amount of time. Played solo or in teams, each person or team is provided with a list of items to find and return to the home base. The first person or team to collect all of the items in an allotted period of time wins. Visit a website like BirthdayPartyIdeas.com for an entire list of scavenger hunt options, or make up your own. Adult versions include office scavenger hunts and around-town scavenger hunts. Scavenger hunts for children typically take place on the property where the party is hosted.
  • Bingo

Bridal and baby showers frequently include games like Wedding Bingo or Baby Bingo. There's also Birthday Bingo and of course, plain old Bingo, too. No matter what you call it, everyone loves Bingo, and it's been a popular party game for decades. You may purchase a basic Bingo game at most stores where games are sold. Each guest will have a card and one person will be the designated Bingo caller. He or she will pick tiles or balls from a basket or bin and read the corresponding letters and numbers; calling out "B-29" and so on until someone manages to cover all of the numbers on his or her card and calls out, "Bingo!" Those calling "Bingo" will receive a prize once the Bingo caller ascertains that they did in fact have the correct numbers covered. Birthday Bingo, Baby Bingo and Wedding Bingo are easy to find at party supply stores. You will need to cut out the cards and calling pieces, as well as the markers. Save yourself the aggravation, however, and purchase dried beans or use pennies as markers instead. They stay in place better and are easier to clean up when the game is over.
