Children love to learn and explore with their hands. A great way to encourage them to do this is with crafts. Finding fun, easy crafts for kids to do at school can be simple. With a little creativity and a few supplies, you'll have a great craft that kids will be proud to bring home to their parents.

You can create easy kids crafts with simple supplies like crayons.

Bookmarks
A great way to encourage kids to read is to have them make their own bookmarks. You only need some colored construction paper, scissors, crayons and contact paper. Cut out the construction paper into rectangles of about 4 by 12 centimeters ahead of time, or allow the children to do it if they are old enough to use scissors. Let the children draw and color on their bookmarks to decorate them. Use the contact paper to cover the front and back of the bookmark. This will preserve the bookmark and make it firm. Compliment the children on their latest creation and encourage them to use it in their own books at home.

Fingerprint Pictures
This simple craft allows children to use their hands to make pictures. Provide paper, ink pads, crayons and markers. Have each child place their fingers on the ink pad and then press them onto the paper. Use the crayons and markers to decorate the fingerprints and turn them into animals, people and any other object their imagination desires. The children can also use their whole hand to create bigger objects. Afterward the children can take their creations home to their parents. These make great keepsakes as many parents enjoy having reminders of how small their children's hands were.

Pine Cone Bird Feeders
A great craft to teach children about nature is to make pine cone bird feeders. Have each child bring in a pine cone from their yard, or provide the pine cones yourself. You'll also need peanut butter (you can substitute shortening if there is concern about food allergies), Popsicle sticks, birdseed, paper plates, cling wrap, string and scissors. Help the children cut a piece of string and tie it to the top of each pine cone. The string should be long enough that it can be tied around a tree branch. Each child should put their pine cone on a paper plate and use the Popsicle stick to spread peanut butter all over the pine cone. Sprinkle the birdseed over the pine cone until it is covered. Use the cling wrap to cover the bird feeders so the children can take them home. Tell the children to hang the bird feeder from a tree and watch while the birds eat.
