  • Overview

Ah, the dangers of a table laden with delicious finger foods. A major concern for the host whether his guests will come away from the table still feeling hungry. Calorie conscious guests may worry about the possibility of nibbling happily away and consuming too many calories without knowing it. Offering guests finger foods that taste good but are still filling does not have to be a challenge. Success at offering guests filling appetizers is as simple as selecting the right kinds of foods.
  • Fruits

Selecting high-fiber appetizers is a major key to serving finger food that will fill the tummy. Fruits like oranges, grapes and apples pack a lot of fiber in surprisingly tasty packages. Fruit kabobs that include these fruits are very satisfying. For guests with a sweet tooth, provide a yummy caramel fruit dip. By offering a selection of fruits, you also offer a healthy alternative to guests who are watching their weight.

  • Whole Wheat

Whole grains are also packed with fiber and can be very filling. Delicious whole wheat sesame crackers straight from the oven can be a real crowd pleaser. Making whole wheat crackers from scratch may sound daunting, but creating homemade crackers is actually very simple. The dough for these crackers is made of sesame seeds, whole wheat flower, canola oil, fine sea salt and non-aluminum baking powder. Roll out the dough and cut into desired shapes. Bake in a moderate oven for 15 to 20 minutes. Choose whole wheat tortillas over traditional ones for recipes that call for them. Provide whole wheat pretzel sticks in addition to potato chips for a healthy and filling option.
  • Sandwiches

Small sandwiches are a popular finger food that also provide satisfying sustenance. Be sure to use whole grain breads such as whole wheat, pumpernickel, rye, oatmeal and mixed grain. Vegetable sandwich fillings are a substantial complement to whole grain breads. Combine chopped tomatoes, cucumbers, green pepper, onions and mayonnaise for a tasty sandwich filling.
  • Vegetables

A selection of fresh vegetables served on an attractive relish tray can provide guests with a filling finger food choice. Vegetables that are particularly filling include broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, celery, corn on the cob, green onions, peppers and tomatoes.
  • Other Snacks

There are many traditional snacks and treats that are filling and make for easy-to-prepare finger foods. Popcorn is a perennial favorite and will quickly satisfy hunger pangs. Serve peanut butter on crackers for a treat that is healthy and delicious. Other filling finger food choices include salsa and tortilla chips or an assortment of nuts.
