Miniature-sized, or toy, dogs are becoming increasingly popular. They are cute, don't squash you when they sit on your lap and even can fit inside a purse. However, it is important to know the right way to feed a miniature dog.
Miniature dogs need special care if they are to thrive.

Step 1
Feed your miniature dog approximately three times per day. Dogs should not be fed only once a day unless they can handle a large portion to fill themselves--and this requires that a dog sleeps a lot and gets much intense exercise. Miniature dogs are not suited for this lifestyle.

Feed your miniature dog small meals. A miniature dog might want to consume large quantities, but it does not have a stomach large enough to handle amounts that are disproportionate to its size. According to dogbreedinfo.com, an adult dog weighing up to 10 pounds should be fed a third of a cup to 1 cup of (dry) food per day. A dog weighing 10 to 25 pounds should be fed 1 to 2 1/4 cups.

Miniature dogs dehydrate more easily than larger dogs, so it is important they always have water available to drink.

If your miniature dog is puppy, feed it warm milk and no solids until it is at least 4 weeks old.
