Eco Green Cleaning

by Joey Papa
  • Overview

With a greater awareness of chemical toxins found in conventional cleaners, many people are making the switch to eco green cleaning products. Eco green cleaning is environmentally conscious and is better for you and your family's health. Eco green cleaning uses natural, plant-derived ingredients that clean effectively without using chemicals harmful to the environment. You can purchase eco green products or make them yourself using everyday household items.
  • Reuse and Recycle

Reusing and recycling is a large part of eco friendly cleaning. Don't leave the water running when you're cleaning the bathtub or kitchen sink. Wet surfaces with minimal water, use a natural cleaning agent and then rinse the surface with as little water as possible. Avoid using paper towels that have one use and then are thrown away. Use old T-shirts and dish rags for cleaning floors, dusting and wiping down mirrors. Fill a mop bucket with water and use the water in the bucket over and over again until it's too dirty to use. Refresh the water and continue to wring out your reusable clothes. Avoid disposable cleaning products to stay away from throwing away a product that you could reuse.

  • Use Natural Products

Use natural cleaning products that are not made from chemical compounds. Buy natural all-purpose cleaners, scrubbers and window cleaner. Avoid using chlorine bleach as it is highly toxic to waterways and the plant life along water basins. Make your own natural products using baking soda, white vinegar and borax. Use baking soda to scrub away soap scum or in toilet bowls. White vinegar can be used as an all-purpose cleaner and a window washing cleaner. Use white vinegar on your windows and mirrors, wiping with old newspaper that you can recycle. Use borax soap for laundry and as an all-purpose cleaner.
  • Naturally Clean Air

Use plants as a natural air filter for your home. Plants are nature's way of filtering the air for the entire planet. Fill your home with a variation of plants to provide clean air. Avoid using air fresheners as most are made from synthetic chemicals that may make the air smell better but that leave toxic fumes floating in your house. Use essential oils to freshen the air by placing 10 to 15 drops of your favorite fragrance in a spray bottle and fill with water. You can use orange oil, grapefruit oil or peppermint oil to effectively beat stubborn smells.
