Easy Turkey Crafts

by Jennifer Claerr
  • Overview

You can make many Thanksgiving turkey crafts quickly and easily. You can do these crafts with your kids, as long as you supervise them carefully. Allow the kids to do part of the cutting and gluing, but for safety, don't allow them to handle hot glue.
  • Easy Handprint Turkey

Place your child's hands over a piece of red construction paper. Trace around the hands and cut out the print. Repeat these steps with yellow, orange and brown construction paper. Place one of your child's feet over the remaining brown construction paper, trace around it and cut out the print. This will become the body of the turkey. Spread some newspaper over a table to protect the surface. Use brown craft paint to paint the inside of a paper plate. Glue two wiggle eyes and a small scrap of red construction paper to the front of the construction paper footprint. Cut some orange pipe cleaners into 2-inch segments and attach them to the bottom of the paper plate as legs. Glue the handprints finger side up to the back of the paper plate.

  • Easy Pine Cone Turkey

Collect a medium-sized mature pine cone with scales that have spread apart. Wash the pine cone in warm, soapy water and allow it to dry completely. Cut an orange pipe cleaner in half and bend each segment into a shape like a bird's foot. Hot glue the feet to one side of the pine cone. Cut a piece of yellow felt into a small triangle to make the turkey's beak, then cut out a small gobbler using red felt. Use craft glue to attach the gobbler to the beak, then glue the beak to a medium-sized brown pom-pom. Attach two wiggle eyes above the beak on the pom-pom. Allow the glue to dry completely before continuing. Hot glue the pom-pom to the small end of the pine cone. Then, bend a brown pipe cleaner into a wave pattern. Bend a yellow pipe cleaner into a similar pattern. Twist the waves on the pipe cleaners into loops. Place the yellow pipe cleaner behind the brown one and work the loops of together so that the colors alternate to create the appearance of feathers. Hot glue the feathers to the large end of the pine cone. Display the pine cone turkey by balancing him on his tail and feet.
