How to Donate Your Car for Diabetes
by Andrea Lott
-
Overview
The American Diabetes Association accepts donations of cars, trucks, and other vehicles for resale. The proceeds from the donated vehicle sales help fund the organization's diabetes research and education efforts. When you donate a car for diabetes, it may be tax deductible because the American Diabetes Association holds nonprofit 501(c)(3) status with the IRS. The American Diabetes Association accepts running and non-running cars, trucks, boats, and RVs from all 50 states, and the donation costs the donor nothing.

Step 1
Call the American Diabetes Association vehicle donation program toll-free at (800) 232-6570. Answer the phone operator's questions about your vehicle and let him know whether you have the title to your vehicle or not.
-
Step 2
Schedule a time and place with the phone operator for the American Diabetes Association volunteer to come pick up your vehicle within three to four days of your call.
-
Step 3
Attend the scheduled vehicle pickup. Give the volunteer your car's title if you have it. Accept from the volunteer the receipt which can be used for tax purposes, if applicable.
