What are Detoxification Foot Pads?

by Therese Pope
  • Overview

Detoxification foot pads are used to draw out potential harmful toxins from the body through the soles of the feet. Based on Chinese reflexology, the foot pads are an alternative natural health remedy. As a result of using detoxification food pads, people experience increased energy and vitality.
  • Features

Detoxification foot pads are made from natural materials. The most common ingredient found in foot pads is tree extract (from bamboo). The pads resemble large sticky bandages and are applied to the soles of the feet before bed. You need to keep the pads on overnight for best results.

  • History

Chinese medicine associates toxins with illness and disease. Toxins can be ingested via food and environmental conditions, and then they build up inside the body. The practice of Chinese reflexology correlates certain points found on the feet with meridian points that run throughout the body. These meridian points are linked to different organs, bones, tissues, joints and muscles throughout the body. As toxins travel throughout the body, they collect at the base of the body (in the feet).
  • Function

The pads have an osmosis effect. The heat from the pads causes the feet to sweat. As a result, toxins and waste are drawn out via perspiration from the feet and accumulate on the pad's material. It's advised to keep foot pads on overnight as this is supposed to help with restful sleep while it draws out toxins from the body. The pads turn a dark brown to black color (due to toxin accumulation), and you should discard them after using them.
  • Benefits

Detoxification foot pads are believed to boost a person's immune system. The foot pads can relieve symptoms associated with joint pain and arthritis, fatigue, depression, insomnia, headaches, allergies, skin disorders, and a variety of other health problems. After using foot pads over an extended period of time, people experience less fatigue. For people who suffer from regular bouts of pain (from arthritis or other joint or muscle issues), their pain can also decrease.
  • Theories/Speculation

Theories associated with detoxification foot pads claim that the reason the pads turn brown is due to dirt and debris collected on the foot's surface. When sweat mixes with the dirt particles, the pads absorb it and turn a brownish color. Because these pads aren't recommended by the United States Food and Drug Administration, medical doctors don't support these pads as an effective detoxification treatment and do not recommend that people use them.
  • Warning

People experience varying results when using detoxification foot pads.
