Overview
As the Internet gains prominence in our everyday lives, more and more creative and entertainment endeavors are moving online. From collaborating with musicians around the world to listening to personalized radio stations, there are several services that allow you to create, customize and share your passions. One of the most popular trends is the rise of the personal radio station with several companies allowing users to create and control their own custom stations. Here is how to design a multi-genre Internet radio station using Pandora.com, popular Internet music service.
-
-
Step 1
Go to the Pandora.com homepage and choose the "Create an Account" option underneath the account sign-in section.
-
Step 2
Enter your email address, password, year of birth, zip code and gender into the contact field. The email address, password and birth year are mandatory to validate your account, but naming gender is optional.
-
Step 3
Check the options beneath the sign-up form. You must agree to Pandora's terms of use before you are allowed to continue. The "personalized recommendations and tips" option will send updates and service news directly to your email account and is not mandatory for creating an account.
-
Step 4
Check through the several service options after your account is created. These may include product deals from Pandora affiliates as well as options to find friends through your email address and connect your account to your social networks. These are all optional services.
-
Step 5
Create your own station based on specific artists and song once you've clicked through to your main homepage. Choose the "Create New Station" option in the top left side of your music window.
-
Step 6
Enter the name of an artist or song, and Pandora will automatically build a playlist around your selection.
-
Step 7
Choose the "Add Variety" link, highlighted in orange under your radio station's name in the left column, to add music to your station. Once your station is created, you can add artists of different genres, and Pandora will expand your playlist to include these types of music.

- After you have selected several artists for your station, you can edit the name to reflect your tastes. Choose the "Options" link under the station's name and choose "Rename."
Pandora has several pre-selected genre stations to choose from. You can find these in the lower half of your homepage in the left side bar marked Genre Stations. You can use these as a starting point for your own customizations.
