How to Deal With Husband's Hair Loss
by Lauren Fitzpatrick

Step 1
Do not tease your husband about his hair loss. It is beyond his control, and negative comments will only hurt him, particularly if he is already sensitive about going bald.
-
Step 2
Focus on the positive features about your husband. Compliment him on his eyes or smile, reinforcing that you still find him attractive. Also, compliment him on things unrelated to his appearance.
-
Step 3
Be sensitive about approaching the topic. If you would like him to explore hair restoration, bring it up gently. Legacy Hair Center, a hair-replacement center in North Carolina, suggests saying something such as, "Honey, don't you miss having hair?" before introducing the idea of hair transplants.
-
Step 4
If he wants to, look into alternative treatments such as Propecia or Rogaine, prescription pills or over-the-counter lotions that promise to prevent or treat hair loss. A hairpiece may also be an option. If your husband is taking Propecia, he should alert his doctor, as it can interfere with prostate-screening results.
-
Step 5
Accept that whatever he decides to do about his hair loss is his decision, not yours. If he asks for your advice, be honest, but caring.
-
Step 6
Give it time. If your husband decides to shave his head and go completely bald, it may be jarring at first, but you will eventually get used to the idea.
