New York City is one of the culinary epicenters of our world and is home to some of the great culinary colleges. New York City culinary schools like the Institute of Culinary Education (ICE), The French Culinary Institute (FCI) and the Culinary Academy of Long Island (CALI) specialize in training and preparing students for a career in the field of culinary arts.

The Institute of Culinary Education (ICE)
Opened in 1975 and self proclaimed the "largest and most active center for culinary education," The Institute of Culinary Education (ICE) offers programs in culinary arts, pastry and baking as well as in culinary management. Depending on the field of study, programs run six to11 months with a class size of 12 to 17 students; morning, afternoon and evening courses are all available. ICE is a multiple-year winner of the International Association of Professionals Award of Excellence and ICE graduates have went on the receive various culinary honors such as Food and Wine's Best New Chef Award and the James Beard Award.

The French Culinary Institute (FCI)
According to its website, The French Culinary Institute was opened over 25 years ago and has been intent on teaching a blend of "classic french techniques" and "American inventiveness." Courses at the FCI cover a variety of the culinary fundamentals, such as knife skills, sauce making, ingredients, food costs and many others.The programs are held in a six- to nine-month period with an average of 12 students per class. The French Culinary Institute is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT) and has a faculty stocked with master chefs like Alain Sailhac and Jacques Pepin.

The Culinary Academy of Long Island (CALI)
Opened in 1996 and located in the greater New York City area of Long Island, The Culinary Academy of Long Island offers programs in professional or commercial cooking as well as in restaurant and hotel management. Depending on the program of study, class size ranges from 15 to 20 students. The Culinary Academy of Long Island is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT) and maintains membership with the National Restaurant Association and the International Association of Culinary Professionals.
