How to Create a Screensaver in Windows Vista

Overview
The Windows operating system comes with a variety of screen savers from which users can choose. If you do not wish to use these screen savers, you can create your own in Windows Vista using the digital photos and videos from your computer's library. Many choose photos and videos of their loved ones as a screen saver. Others display photos of beaches and other landscapes that help them "escape" or that evoke pleasant memories.

Step 1
Open the "Start" menu by clicking on the Windows icon at the bottom of the Windows Vista screen. Select "Control Panel" and choose the "Appearance and Personalization" category from the list of options.
-
Step 2
Click on "Personalization," which is the first option listed in the "Appearance and Personalization" window. The next screen you will see is "Personalize Appearance and Sounds."
-
Step 3
Select the "Screen Saver" option. You will see a new window called "Screen Saver Settings" appear.
-
Step 4
Click the arrow icon in the "Screen Saver" section. A dropdown menu displaying a list of screen saver options will appear. Click on "Photos."
-
Step 5
Click on the "Settings" button in the "Screen Saver" section. A window called "Photos Screen Saver" settings will appear. Indicate whether you want the screen saver to consist of all pictures and videos stored in your library or only those from a specific folder on your computer. If you choose the latter option, you will see that the default setting in Vista instructs the computer to use photos from your "Pictures" folder. If you wish to change the setting to a subfolder of "Pictures," click on the "Browse" button and highlight the desired folder. Click "OK" to confirm your selection.
-
Step 6
Click "Save" once you have chosen the desired screen saver. Doing so will close the "Photos Screen Saver Settings" window.
-
Step 7
Click the "OK" button in the "Screen Saver Settings" window. Your new screen saver will appear the next time your computer is inactive for the period of time indicated in the screen saver settings.
