How to Create & Maintain a Web Page
by Contributing Writer
-
Sketch on paper what you would like your Web page to look like. Decide what elements need to be on the page and where each will go.
-
Gather the images, text, video and other elements to be placed on the page together in one folder.
-
Choose a Web design software. Adobe Dreamweaver is the industry standard for professional Web page design, but there are many free or inexpensive Web design programs as well, such as NVU Open Source Web Builder and WYSIWYG Web Builder Five. These programs are fine for building personal Web pages.
-
Step 4
Working from the initial sketch, lay the Web page out using the Web design software.
-
Step 5
Register a domain name and purchase Web hosting at Register.com or a similar service.
-
Step 6
Following the instructions provided by the hosting service, upload the Web page and its attendant files to the Web host.
Maintaining a Web Page
-
Once the Web page is live, check it periodically to make sure the content is still fresh and the links still work.
-
Gather new content, materials and links for updating the site.
-
Update the website with the Web design software, and upload the new version of the site to the Web host.
