How to Create a Greeting Card With Music

by Dale Culp
  • Overview

Have you ever come across a greeting card that let you record your own message but didn't like the picture on the front? Or maybe you have some really cool idea for a card that goes beyond the simple greeting card idea and thought it needed some music, as well? It's not that hard to make exactly what you want.

  • Finding a good digital recorder small enough to fit into a greeting card could be the hardest part. Some companies online sell the part that greeting card manufacturers use, but only in bulk. If you're willing to go with a heavier, thicker device, look at hobby and craft shops. Alternatively, you can buy a greeting card with a digital voice recorder built in and simply remove the part to add it to your own card. Some recorders have sensors that detect when the card has been opened and will play the message or music automatically while others feature buttons that start and stop the music. If the device you've found features buttons, try to find something really cool to do with them. Remember: a greeting card doesn't have to be just a card. You can sew the device into a doll or stuffed animal as well. Maybe even decorate a jewelry box or some other wild idea. Your loved one will appreciate the extra effort and creativity! When recording the music, try to make the environment as quiet as possible and keep the recorder close to but not directly in front of the speaker. If you get too close, the sound will be distorted; too far away, and the recorder won't be able to pick it up. Make sure the batteries work.
