How to Create an Exhibit Booth for Impact

by Lynn Holmgren
  • Overview

An exhibit that has a strong visual impact will be more likely to entice potential interest from a passerby. By employing devices that appeal to all of the different senses, and making your message loud and clear, your exhibit can have the impact you want. It is important to take the time to put together a good exhibit because it will be a direct and powerful reflection of you, your company or cause, and it will portray the level of product quality and service that patrons could expect to receive.

  • Step 1

Consider the type, size, design and configuration of your display. It should correspond to your goals, audience, space and ease of transportation.
  • Step 2

Choose what type of display you will set up at your exhibit booth (pop-up, panel, table-top, etc.) and purchase the appropriate materials.
  • Step 3

Design your graphics and banners. Grab people's attention with bold, easy-to-read type, bright, warm colors (red, orange, yellow) and lots of visuals.
  • Step 4

Make the title/company/product name highly visible and well lit. Keep your message direct and succinct.
  • Step 5

Employ motion techniques such as colored streamers with a fan, live demonstrations, Powerpoint presentation or DVD projection.
  • Step 6

Use sound, live or recorded, to attract people to your booth. (Just make sure it is not too loud and distracting to other booths around you.)
  • Step 7

Lure curious customers with the smell of freshly popped popcorn or cinnamon bun scented candles.
  • Step 8

Have free trinkets (candy, pencils, keyrings) to give away to people who stop at your booth or make a wheel of fortune "spin and win." Have a sign-up sheet for a giveaway, allowing you to get potential customers' names and email or phone number contacts.
