How to Create a Coloring Book
by Brian Hudson
-
Step 1
Gather black-and-white line art for the pages. Images can be scanned into a computer, or pre-existing digitized images can be gathered from the Internet (see the Resources section below).

Ideally, artwork should be simple, black-and-white line drawings with a minimum of shading or detail work.
-
Step 2
In a word-processing program, create a blank document with a 1-inch left-hand margin and half-inch top, right and bottom margins. Set the page to center both horizontally and vertically.
-
Step 3
Insert the gathered artwork, one image per page. Be sure to size the artwork so that each image fills the page, but no larger than 7 inches wide or 10 inches tall.
-
Step 4
Print the pages on 24-lb. white paper, single-sided.
-
Step 5
Punch holes along the left edge of each page with a standard three-hole punch, and insert the pages into the three-ring binder.
-
Step 6
OPTIONAL: Have your children personalize their coloring book by decorating the binder with stickers, markers or other decorative items.

- Let your kids help you choose the artwork that they like.
20-lb. standard white printer paper can be used if you do not have 24-lb. paper available.
Don't forget to refill the coloring book as the kids use up pages.
