How to Have Correct Hip Posture for Singing

by Contributing Writer
1Regardless of what type of music they perform, every singer must learn proper breath control. One of the key elements to learning this is having the correct hip posture. Yes, it may feel a little odd at first, but it will greatly improve both your lung capacity and your control when singing. And, it's incredibly simple!Just yourself
Stand with your shoulders back and your spine straight.Place your left foot slightly in front of the other, almost like your taking a step forward. Your right foot will be somewhat turned out to the side.Tilt your hips forward just enough so that there is a nice, straight line from the nape of your neck to the base of your spine.Inhale from the diaphragm and begin singing!
Don't let your shoulders slump forward. The goal is to open your airways, allowing you to breathe easy and naturally, and giving you greater control over your diaphragm.

Be sure not to tilt your hips too far forward. You don't want to be straining to hold your hips in place.
