How to Convert Real Video to Mpeg

by Art Corvelay
  • Overview

Converting files can be challenging when you are trying to convert obscure or unknown file formats. However, both Real Video and MPEG files are quite common. A Real Video file is the proprietary file type created by Real Networks. These files are appended with the file extension .rm. MPEG stands for "moving pictures expert group" and refers to a digitally compressed format of audio and video. MPEG files are often preferred to many other video types because they retain a high quality video image while staying small. You can convert Real Video files into MPEG files using a Web-based approach.

  • Step 1

Launch your Internet browser and open zamzar.com (see Resources). This website converts hundreds of media files including Real Video files. It is free.
  • Step 2

Click the "browse" button and import the Real Video file that you want to convert. Again, remember that this will be appended with the extension .rm.
  • Step 3

Select the output file format from the drop-down menu. Choose "MPEG" from this drop-down list.
  • Step 4

Enter your email address in the text box provided. An email will be sent to you from Zamzar containing a link to download the converted file. You will not receive any spam or advertisements from this site.
  • Step 5

Open your email client and find the email from Zamzar Conversions. Download the linked file to save it to your computer.
