How to Convert an MP3 to a Ringtone on a RAZR

Overview

Everybody who owns a Motorola RAZR cell phone wants it to say something about who she is, but many settle for picking one of the phone's preloaded ring tones. If you want a different ringtone, it will cost you to download a new one from your cell phone provider. But what if you could convert a portion of one of your MP3 music files into a new ringtone for your phone? A number of new services now allow you to do just that.

Step 1

Open your web browser, go to tonethis.com and click "Download Now." (Note: there are several other sites that offer similar services; this one is used for illustrative purposes only.)
Step 2

Install the ToneThis application and open it. Click "Continue with Free Version." Enter your information, including an email address, your phone number and your phone type (in this case, a Motorola RAZR).
Step 3

Click "Browse Music" on the left-hand side of the screen and select the MP3 file you want to convert to a ringtone.
Step 4

Select the portion of the MP3 you want to convert by clicking and dragging within the waveform that appears in the center of the window. Click "Play" to ensure you've picked the right section.
Step 5

Click "Send to Phone" once you're satisfied with your selection. ToneThis will convert the file and upload it to a server. You'll receive a text message in a few moments.
Step 6

Press the "Globe" button (located just above the "Send" button) to start your RAZR's web browser. Go to the site mentioned in the text message you just received.
Step 7

Highlight the file using the four-way navigation buttons and press "Select" (the right "soft key," which performs the function listed in the lower right-hand side of the screen) and press "Store," again using the right-hand soft key.
