by Lacey Roop
  • Overview

Converting your cell phone to a hands-free approach not only frees up your hands but is also a much safer option for using your cell phone while driving. To use a hands-free headset with your cell phone, you will need Bluetooth. This application allows the wireless interchange between the headset and the cell phone. With a few quick steps, you can be well on your way to enjoying a hands-free approach to cell phone use.

  • Step 1

Purchase a wireless headset at an electronics or cell phone store. Also, make sure that Bluetooth is installed on your phone.
  • Step 2

Charge your headset. Most headsets come with a charging dock or they plug directly into an outlet. Initially, most headsets will need to be charged for at least 24 hours.
  • Step 3

Enable the Bluetooth application on your phone if it is not automatically turned on.
  • Step 4

Activate the option on your phone that allows it to search for Bluetooth devices. Consult your manual for specific instructions as they will vary by cell phone. This option is found under the "tools" section of the cell phone menu for most phones.
  • Step 5

Turn the headset on and allow Bluetooth to search for the wireless device. When it recognizes the headset, it will be ready for use.
