    Common Signs of Breast Cancer
Breast cancer is a common concern for many women. While breast cancer is uncommon before menopause, early detection is the key to survival. It should also be noted that, according to the National Cancer Institute, 1,700 men in the United States are diagnosed with breast cancer every year, so it is important that no one ignores these common signs of breast cancer.
  • Lump

One of the most common signs of breast cancer is a hard lump in the breast. These lumps are typically small, do not move and are seldom painful. Occasionally a lump will feel gritty as though there is sand under the skin.

  • Size Change

A sudden increase or decrease in the size of the breast is a common sign of breast cancer. It is also normal to experience a change in the shape of the breast that may appear to alter the size.
  • Skin Changes

Nipples and breasts may become red and scaly. Other common signs of breast cancer include a pitting of the skin that can imitate cellulite, or swelling of the affected breast.
  • Tenderness

While pain is a rare sign of breast cancer, it is common to experience some nipple tenderness. The breast may also feel tender when pressure is applied.
  • Discharge

A discharge from the nipple is a common sign of breast cancer. This discharge may be yellow, white, green or bloody. The first two may not indicate breast cancer; however, the latter are a cause for concern.
