How to Choose Chrome Wheels

by Lacey Roop
  • Overview

Choosing chrome wheels can be a daunting task. With the increasing popularity of specialty wheels and rims, the options available to consumers are considerable. When purchasing new chrome wheels, take into consideration how much money you are willing to spend, the type of vehicle you will be placing the wheels on and where you want to buy the wheels. Once you have an answer to these simple questions, you can sucessfully purchase a set of new chrome wheels armed with the knowledge that you have done your homework.

  • Step 1

Decide what type of chrome wheels you want to purchase and how much you would like to spend. Styles range from around $3,000 per wheel for a set of spinning wheels. Wire rim chrome wheels start at around $200 a wheel. At the opposite end of the spectrum, regular alloy wheels range from between $65 to $75 a wheel.
  • Step 2

Factor in how you will be using the wheels when making a purchasing decision. If you are interested in speed and racing, alloy chrome wheels are light and aero-dynamic. Alloy wheels also work well for vehicles which are driven long distances on a daily basis. Because the alloy wheels are light, they can reduce gas mileage and allow for greater air flow which prevents overheating.
  • Step 3

Decide where you will go to purchase the chrome wheels. Shopping at a local auto parts or car detailing shop allows you to see your wheels first hand and know exactly what type of equipment will be placed on your car. The downside is you may end up paying a higher price for such a hands-on experience. Researching deals online may save you a considerable amount of money. However, you must install the wheels yourself when they arrive or pay to have them installed professionally.
