How to Change the Color of a Trackball

Overview

Cell phones have become such an important part of everyday life that for many their phones are a means of personal expression. They choose phones in their favorite color, use ring tones made from favorite songs, and put them in decorative cases and holsters. A neat way to customize a phone with a trackball is to change its color.

How to Change the Color of a Trackball

Step 1

Purchase a trackball assembly in your choice of color. Make sure the assembly comes with the silver ring. See the resources section for some options.
Step 2

Turn off your device. Pry off the silver ring around the trackball assembly carefully by using the screwdriver. Work around the perimeter of the ring and pry it off a little at a time to prevent damaging the tiny prongs that hold it in place. Take note of where the prongs are aligned so that you can put the new assembly in the same way.
Step 3

Lift the trackball assembly out and clean the area underneath with a Q-tip that has been dampened with alcohol.
Step 4

Put the new, colored trackball assembly in place of the old one, making sure to put the three prongs in place as you noted in Step 2.
Step 5

Place the new silver ring over the new trackball assembly and press down on it evenly to lock it in place.
