Overview
Voting is an important part of society, so if you plan to move, it is essential that you change your address on your voter registration card. Changing your address will let voting officials know which precinct you are in so that they can provide you with the correct polling station. It is also important to make sure that you vote in the correct precinct so that you are able to vote in local and community elections, such as aldermen, ordinances and others.

Step 1
Go to the website for the county clerk's office for the county where you live. Most county clerk offices have websites. You can also go to the website for the Secretary of State.
-
Step 2
Access the correct form on the county clerk's website to change your address for voter registration. This will vary greatly by states and counties. Some allow you to print off the form, so that you can fill it out and mail it in. Others allow you to complete and submit the form online. Locating the correct form also varies. There may be a specific form for changing an address or you may just fill out a voter registration form and mark that it is a new address.

Step 3
Contact the County Clerk or Secretary of state's office in your community if you cannot obtain the correct form online. They will send you the form or tell you how to access it.
-
Step 4
Complete the form to change your address on your voter registration card, no matter if you have obtained the form online or another way. Follow the directions on the form to complete it correctly.
-
Step 5
Submit the form following the guidelines for your area. A new voter registration card will be sent to you as soon as your change of address has been processed. This usually takes a couple of weeks.
