Overview
Cellulite is a condition in which the skin of the buttocks, thighs and abdomen (mainly) takes on a dimpled appearance. It affects the majority of women, and some men, too. Common names for it include orange peel or cottage cheese skin, hail damage and the mattress syndrome. Scientists have not reached a consensus as to what causes it. However, whatever the cause, it can be a source of embarrassment for those who have it. Until recently, it has been seen as something you couldn't do anything about. Fortunately, if cellulite is a concern for you, there are now quite a few treatment methods. Although there is not yet a cellulite treatment that is successful at eliminating cellulite completely, there are a selection of techniques provided by medical spas and laser clinics that produce satisfactory results for many. Here we offer an overview of some of the better-known options available.
-
Endermologie
Endermologie is a noninvasive technique for reducing the appearance of cellulite. Plastic surgeons in France developed the process used in endermologie. It is now also patented in the United States. This cellulite removal treatment employs dual action rollers to carefully massage problem areas of the skin, smoothing it over. Simultaneously, suction is used to restructure the skin and remove dimpling. You will need approximately from 14 to 28 sessions of 45 minutes each to see results and should continue monthly treatments afterward to maintain the smooth skin appearance.
The best candidates for this treatment are between the ages of 30 and 45 and physically fit. Those who are not physically active will not be able to maintain results, and those more than 30 pounds overweight are not likely to benefit from this method.

VelaShape
VelaShape is another noninvasive cellulite treatment option. It uses a mixture of infrared light, radiofrequency (RF) energy, vacuum-pulsed negative pressure and rollers uniquely designed to smooth out the skin's surface during the treatment process. Clients can expect to see results after four to six appointments. Outcomes vary. Although it is noninvasive, the rollers can cause bruising in those with delicate or sensitive skin. Patients with pacemakers or implanted metal in the treatment area are not candidates for VelaShape treatments.
-
VelaSmooth
This cellulite reduction technique uses bipolar radio frequency and optical energy to tighten targeted skin and remove cellulite. Though VelaSmooth is not a weight loss procedure, it claims to reshape and contour the body for a leaner look and feel. A full VelaSmooth procedure consists of two 45 to 60 minute treatments per week for 6 to 8 weeks. Patients can expect to start seeing results after the third week. Monthly maintenance sessions can provide long lasting results.

Mesotherapy
Mesotherapy involves injecting extremely small quantities of a combination of natural extracts, homeopathic elements, pharmaceuticals and vitamins into the skin. The doctor will create a formula to reduce the fat in your cellulite, improve damaged circulation and break down connective tissue that is in poor condition by this means smoothing the skin's surface. Mesotherapy can treat cellulite anywhere on the body. It targets cellulite directly, causing skin to be smoother and reducing fat in the areas selected. Advantages of mesotherapy over some other methods are that it does not require hospitalization, general anesthesia or any recuperation period.

LipoDissolve with LipoAT
LipoDissolve is considered to be an extra concentrated form of Mesotherapy. This process is also known by many names, such as Lipostabil, Lipo-zap, Flab-Jab, Lipotherapy and Injection Lipolysis, among others. The process consists of giving the patient dozens of small "fat burning" injections into fat and connective tissue over several sessions. It transforms fat cells into a liquid form that is easily passed out of the body. When LipoDissolve is combined with a laser that helps liquify fat, LipAT, it yields smoother, tauter skin. The main drawback with this method is that LipoDissolve is not FDA approved.
