    Causes of Dry Hair
Having dry hair that lacks shine and life can be very frustrating. However, with a variety of environmental and man-made factors affecting its texture and appearance, dry hair is not an irreversible condition.
  • Treatment and Styling

Overtime, permanent wave and color treatments, as well as frequent blow-drying, can transform healthy hair into a rough, coarse mass.

  • Washing

Using a harsh shampoo will strip your hair of moisture. In addition, living in an area where the water contains a high level of calcium, also referred to as "hard" water, overtime may reduce hair's softness.
  • Chlorine

Swimming in chlorinated pool water without wearing a protective cap can also deplete the hair of its moisture.
  • Nutrition

In order to be soft and shiny, hair needs nutrients. Malnutrition or conditions such as anorexia deprive the body of essential nutrients, affecting the texture of hair.
  • Climate

The climate you live in affects your hair's health. A hot, dry environment with little or no humidity can significantly dry out hair.
  • Medical Conditions

Dry hair can stem from conditions such as eczema or psoriasis. These skin disorders first cause dryness of the scalp and then eventually begin to affect the hair as well.
