Careers in Massage Therapy for Pets
Massage therapy is just as beneficial for animals as it is for humans. Dogs and horses are at the top of the list of animal recipients of massage, and owners are happy to pay qualified therapists for their expertise.
  • Canine and Equine Sports Massage

Competition horses and dogs are athletes that have the same problems as human athletes such as stiff and sore muscles, spasms, and fatigue.

  • Pets

Pet horses and dogs kept for companionship or shows can have some of the same health issues as competitive counterparts. Horses retired from the racing circuit have injuries and old age to deal with.
  • Education and Certification

There is no state licensing for animal massage, but certification is available. Knowledge of animal anatomy, pathology and physiology is required to succeed in this career.
  • Equissage

Equissage has been the top trainer of certified canine and equine sports massage therapists since 1991. Founder Mary Schreiber is the author of "The How To Manual Of Sports Massage For the Equine Athlete."
  • Trivia Tidbit

Experience in massage therapy for humans is not a requirement in pet massage.
