- Listen to the station when the host just got on air and going to speak on a topic you're interested in. Trying to call in the middle or almost end of the show will keep you on the phone forever since many others will try to get through the line as well, especially if it is a hot topic.Know what you are discussing. Before talking to the host, you will be screened by the producer. They will ask you about the subject and what you're going to say. Say three or fours lines with confidence and you're in.Now you're on the air. This is the part where some people's nerves set in and it is natural, especially for first timers. If you know the discussion like the back of your hand, you can sail through it with ease. But, please be clear and direct on the opinions you are expressing without wasting so much time.Be friendly with the host and start off the discussion by greeting the person. If there is a disagreement and the host wants you to acknowledge their opinion as fact, don't give in and just politely let them know you disagree. Tell them why. It makes for a great debate and you also won't come across as rude or easily swayed.
