-
Overview
Flexible work schedules are implemented in some work settings as a benefit to both employees and employers. Flexible work schedules offer an alternative to the traditional 9-5 work week.
-
Morale
According to a study by the American Psychological Association, companies that enacted a flexible work schedule and telecommuting experienced higher employee morale and lower turnover.
-
Increased Productivity
Employees on a flexible work schedule tend to have a higher productivity because they are able to work when they are most effective.
-
Extended Work Hours
Flexible work schedules give companies the ability to extend their hours and, thereby, become more competitive in the marketplace.
-
Decreased Absenteeism
Flexible work schedules allow employees to schedule errands, important appointments and tend to family obligations during the day, but outside of their work hours. Therefore, absenteeism is lower at companies that allow flexible work schedules.
-
Cross-Training
Cross-training across jobs and departments tends to occur in companies that allow flexible work schedules. This provides better work coverage during peak periods or vacations times and fosters teamwork within the company.
-
Child Care
Employees with flexible schedules are given the opportunity to alternate their work hours with their spouses or school schedules to minimize the amount of time they need child care.
