How to 'Beef Up' Your Electric Scooter

Overview
Electric scooters are an economical form of transportation, but those with a traditional, single 12-volt battery setup don't always give their owners the range, speed and carrying power they want. If you are an electric scooter owner who wants to get more power and longer running time between charges, you will need to make changes to your battery setup and the way in which you keep it charged.
-
-
Step 1
Add more battery power to your scooter to get more power and longer range. Scooters are based on 12-volt systems, and one or two 12-volt batteries may be all they came with. Add one or two more additional 12-volt batteries so that the scooter is running on them simultaneously, effectively giving you a 36- or 48-volt scooter. You will notice the additional power immediately.
-
Step 2
Buy new high-capacity batteries from a well-respected manufacturer. If you want your scooter to have maximum power, don't skimp and go for generic or no-name batteries. Visit with a trained salesman at a scooter store or battery store and pick his brain about the best high power batteries.
-
Step 3
Recharge your scooter batteries before they are under 50-percent capacity to get the best long-term performance from them. Continually running batteries down to less than this level will have an adverse effect on your power source.
-
Step 4
Keep your batteries charged rather than discharged when you are not using your scooter for an extended period of time. A battery fully charged can sit for months with few negative effects, but a discharged battery that sits for a long period of time may never be the same, robbing your scooter of power.
