About Back Pain Relief

by Ashlee Simmons
  • Overview

Back pain relief can be treated in many different ways. Pain can extend anywhere from the neck down to the tailbone, or bottom of the spine. Besides medication, exercise to build strong abdominal and back muscles is important. Causes of back pain include injury, herniated discs, osteoporosis, spinal stenosis and tumors.
  • Medication

Over-the-counter (OTC) medications such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen and aspirin help with pain and swelling.

  • Water

Water therapy, such as sitting in a hot tub, taking a warm bath and Balneotherapy, help to ease stiff muscles.
  • Exercise

Exercise builds strong core muscles that help support the spine. Walking, swimming, Pilates and yoga are excellent choices.
  • Chiropractic

Chiropractic care can realign vertebrae and straighten the spine as well as relieve muscle pain.
  • Posture

Good posture that keeps the spine straight while standing, moving, sitting and sleeping can offer back pain relief as well as build a strong core.
  • Massage

Massage helps to loosen tight muscles and disperse toxins, increase blood flow to the area, and provide overall relaxation and well-being.
  • Acupuncture

Acupuncture releases hormones that ease pain. In some cases, long-term treatments alleviate pain completely.
