Atlanta Golf Resorts

by Kevin Scobee
  • In terms of golf, Atlanta is primarily known for the Augusta National Golf Club, home of the Masters. What many people do not know is that the Atlanta area is home to other tremendous golf resorts, as well.
  • Chateau Elan

Just north of Atlanta located in Braselton, this 3,500-acre all-inclusive resort has two public 18-hole championship courses and a public par-three, nine-hole course. The courses are set amidst rolling hills and Bermuda grass, which make them challenging. The Legends, a private golf club, and the Dave Pelz Golf School are also located on the property. Chateau Elan offers packages that include horseback riding, a spa, its own winery, restaurants and a culinary studio. • Callaway Gardens

Callaway Gardens, located 20 miles east of downtown Atlanta in Pine Mountain, is a 13,000-acre retreat set in the Appalachian Mountains. The two courses--the Mountain View Championship course and the Lake View course--are cut with woodland borders and mountain lakes. The resort offers one- or two-bedroom cottages and one- to four-bedroom villas. Activities include hiking, dining, and salon and spa treatments. • Lake Lanier Islands Resort

About 20 miles from Chateau Elan--also just north of downtown Atlanta--you'll find Lake Lanier Islands Resort, a 1,100-acre resort that is home to the Legacy on Lanier Golf Club. The golf facility includes a fully stocked golf shop and Bermuda greens. Lodging ranges from guestrooms and villas to lake houses and houseboats. The resort has three restaurants, a full-service spa and an equestrian center, which offers trail rides, pony rides, summer camps and riding lessons with deluxe amenities. 7000 Holiday Road Lake Lanier Islands, GA 30518 (800) 840-5253 lakelanierislands.com
