How to Get Approved for Transitional Housing

Overview
Transitional housing may be a healthy option for you, especially if you're homeless or needing immediate shelter. Supportive nonprofit organizations in your area have the resources to keep you safe and encourage your growth. A brighter future may be waiting just right around the corner by making these positive steps towards a temporary living situation.

Step 1
Decide which program fulfills your personal needs and suits you best. Look up these programs by searching the internet or city phone book. If you are a youth forced to live on your own, a woman escaping domestic abuse or a person fighting a bad habit, there are rehabilitation and shelters waiting for you to take bold action.
-
Step 2
Call the program immediately to set up an appointment. You may be able to get assistance very soon after contacting the right person and explaining your situation. Be prepared for a screening process or interview as this will help the program staff to determine what level of help you need.
-
Step 3
Meet with a case manager and explain your situation with them. They will assess certain traits you have such as if you're seeking a job, need counseling, and organizing budgets. They will help you achieve your heath and economic goals, as well as encourage your emotional and professional growth.
-
Step 4
Follow the responsibilities involved in your transitional housing program to get you self-sufficient with finances, career and family. There will be expectations and requirements in your program that you will need to coordinate your schedule with. Success depends mainly on you and how strong your efforts are.
-
Step 5
Move up to independence after you've worked closely with your case worker and completed your goals within the transitional living program. You may see that after a year or two you will have enough savings, better credit and more discipline to live on your own.
